By TKO This white heavy duty hand wrap is a full 2" wide and 108" in length. Made out of 100% herringbone cotton weave, it features a thumb starter loop design and velcro closure. Hand/wrist wraps are an important gear in boxing. The ancient Greek practive was to tie a strip of leather around the hand for protection. Today, wraps are secured tightly around wrist and palm, including the base of the thumb, to keep joints aligned and provide extra strength to the soft tissue of the hand during impact. Without wraps, boxers increase the chance of sprains and fractures, particularly injury to the metacarpal bones (the bones connecting the fingers to the forearm), also called 'boxers' fracture'.
